Tom Welling and his three siblings (one of which, his brother Mark Welling, is also an actor) had a somewhat nomadic beginning to life. Born in New York on 26th April 1977 he moved to Wisconsin, Delaware and Michigan before he reached high school. At high school (Okemos High School in Michigan) he developed a passion for sports and, although he played soccer for the school team his main love was basketball. Yet, sports weren’t the only thing that Welling devoted his time to in high school. He was also a keen dramatist and took part in numerous performances throughout his time at the school. It was here that his love for the performing arts really began to be nurtured.

After leaving high school he began working as a construction worker and it was here that he was spotted and bookmarked for a modeling career. In spite of the success that he enjoyed as a model (modeling some of the top brands such as Calvin Klein) Welling said that he didn’t enjoy the experience and preferred to pursue a more enriching and emotion filled acting career. After being casted for the part of Clark Kent in the film Smallville he was soon a household name with the show gaining nationwide acclaim with nearly 8.5 million viewers. He has also starred in the 2 ‘Cheaper By the Dozen’ films alongside other teen stars such as Hilary Duff and was voted, in 2009, as the Choice TV Actor in the TV Choice awards.
