Thomas John Patrick Welling was born on April 26, 1977 in New York in the United States of America.  Tom is an American actor, producer and director and was a model.  He is best remembered for his role as Clark Kent in the television series Smallville.

Tom was a athlete in high school and after leaving school worked in construction. He was a popular model for several men’s clothing lines. Tom modeled for Tommy Hilfiger, Abercrombie & Finch and Calvin Klein. It was in 2000 that Tom made the transition to television. Playing the role of Clark Kent won him critical acclaim and made him a popular personality in America. Tom received many nominations and awards for his portrayal of Clark Kent. Judging Amy was also a successful series for Tom, with a recurring role in the popular television series as the love interest of Amy Brenneman. He was originally only signed for three episodes but due to the popularity of his character and the fan reviews was kept on for a further three episodes.

His first directing work was on Smallville. Tom directed the episode titled Fragile from season five of the series. He then directed Hydro from season six and the 150th show titled Apocalypse. In the eighth season he directed the episode Injustice and Smallville: Absolute Justice movie from Legends in the ninth season of the series. Tom has had success as a producer and director on the big screen as well with his movie Cheaper By the Dozen and its sequel, Cheaper By the Dozen II and then in 2005 he was responsible for a remake of The Fog.
